Hi Joe,

Thanks for your comment.

I understand where you are. The initial fantasy spiritual beliefs that people have get challenged and shown to be false. High state experiences come and go.

Let me be clear: most spiritual paths and religions are about social control and fantasy--believing in things, not dissolving the ego to see reality.

You could be at a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnCNSpswdqU" rel="nofollow ugc">spiritual turning point</a> where you see more of your internal ego structures that color and impede your perception of reality. It's up to you. Learning to let go of the initial spiritual and religious beliefs that got you started on this path is the start. Learning to see how your ego is constantly creating perceptions based off of past experiences and not the present moment is the next step.

If nobody really knows anything, we are all just winging it, there’s no end point, what we once thought we knew and put out into the world with utter conviction turns out to be completely wrong, what the hell are we doing with this whole spirituality thing? I’ve wasted a lot of time on it, when really I should have been focused on figuring out hope to cope with existence in a healthy and meaningful way rather than working toward some vague notion of spirituality. My “awakening experiences” seemed to be nothing but imagination. How does one find any real comfort or reason to keep going? Seems it’s actually quite wise to just be an ordinary human being trying your best to find a bit of meaning and joy that feels good to you. This has always been with my family and experiences, yet I’ve sacrificed a lot of that with this stupid spirituality thing.

This makes very much sense to me. I think this is also how C. G. Jung defines introverted intuition in his 8 functions model: as a perceiving function that seems almost magical, but which actually draws information from the unconscious and synthesizes it into an impression or prediction which is experienced as being true. This is also the reason why people get better with this function as they mature, because they have more unconscious information to draw from and more experience with testing their intuitive perceptions against reality.

Dive into What Is Intuition? Part 2, Monique. In that blog post, I talk about all the different levels of subconscious information that we are looking through. Never underestimate just how perceptive human beings are. There's a difference between perceptive and unconscious associations that we learned and something more magical--which is what we often believe intuition to be.

I think your premise as intuition being a way we try and feel certainty about life and about our choices, makes a lot of sense. But it doesn't seem wholly inclusive about other types of intuition. What about intuition that gives you guidance about other people's business and lives, where you don't care either way what happens, when there is no personal emotional investment and no skin in the game? I've had several correct intuitive predictions about how someone's marriage or business partnership would turn out, when I really didn't care either way and was definitely not trying to feel certain.
